Girls Night In Leeds

During my time at University, I was part of a national campaign to protest the rise in drink spiking. We utilized social media and traditional media outlets to communicate our message across the country and were interviewed by all major news networks in the UK including The Guardian and the BBC. The citywide boycott of clubs and pubs we organised was a resounding success. We captured the attention of the local government and I spoke at a safe nightlife summit attended by the Mayor, MPs and police chiefs. Our campaigning, as part of a wider ‘Girls Night In’ movement, contributed to the issue being heard and debated in parliament and the formation of a Home Affairs Select Committee Report to investigate spiking and how to tackle it. Through this experience I learnt how to succinctly communicate complex ideas and issues to a wide range of audiences, not only capturing attention but also conveying important messages.
